A year after the first discussion about forming a Pastel Society to bring the pastel medium to the attention of the public, Lyndelle Stonick and Evgenia Gennadia started the United Society of Pastel Artists.
Located in Orange County, California, the response to USPA within the first couple of months was outstanding. Sally Strand, a designated master pastelist by PSA, and Kamillia Hardy, a highly regarded art instructor from Santa Ana College, became members and were very instrumental in helping to promote interest in the new organization. The first meeting was held in June of 2006 with Sally as the first speaker. We began with 20 charter members in the spring of 2006, many were students of Lyndelle Stonick's pastel class taught for Saddleback College. They were eager to see USPA materialize and had a lot of faith in Lyndelle. Lyndelle was nervous, "What if this doesn't work out?", yet more and more people showed up just when we needed them. "It has been wonderful!" With all the tremendous support from our membership, we were able to have our first pastel exhibition and sale for members five months after the first meeting. The response was tremendous with 6 pieces being sold.
Lyndelle Stonick commented, "The local talent is so amazing. It's really exciting to have so many gifted artists within our organization."
